CONCORD Rangers winger Ben Greenhalgh says he would swap all his individual success for a spot in the play-offs after the Beach Boys top five dream came to an end.

Concord were beaten 2-1 by Truro City on Tuesday night, a result that ended any chance of securing a play-off place in the National League South this term.

Greenhalgh, 24, scored in the defeat to continue a hugely successful individual campaign in which he has scored 16 times and assisted 33 goals so far, including the winner in the Essex Senior Cup final last week.

But the attacker says he would have preferred to be chasing a spot in the National League rather than improve his own record.

“We are all disappointed with the result against Truro which means we won’t play in the play-offs,” he said. “We played well and I think we were unlucky to be honest. We haven’t played that well recently but we were back to our old selves, but couldn’t get the result.

“I have been really pleased with my season. I set myself a target of 15 goals and 20 assists and I have beaten that now so it has been a very good season for me personally.

“But I would rather have had success with the team and I would swap my goals and assists for a spot in the play-offs.

“But we can work on that for next year, although we still want to finish this season well.”

Concord had to beat Truro to stay in the hunt for the play-offs but they conceded two first half goals to trail 2-0 at the break.

Although Greenhalgh pulled one back eight minutes into the second half it wasn’t enough as Concord now look to secure a top six finish.

And Greenhalgh says that would be an achievement in itself after a difficult start to the season that saw the club flirting with the relegation places come the middle of October.

“If you look back at where we were after 10 games and in the relegation zone and someone had said we had a chance to be in the play-offs in April we would have been happy with that. So we must put it into perspective,” he said.

“We have lacked consistency in parts and if we had played to our capacity in 10 to 15 of the games that we have not been at our best in this year we would be in the top five.

“Our home form has let us down but we have a chance to end it with a win on Saturday and we want to show the fans that.”
