BILLERICAY Town are calling on football prospects to get involved with their exciting new academy scholarship programme.

The full-time education schedule offers qualifications including BTEC level three sports diploma, VRQ level two sports diploma, FA level one and two coaching badges, a nutrition diploma and Maths and English GCSEs.

The programme is led by SCL, a leading provider of education through sport, with 13 spots still up for grabs ahead of the final trial date next Wednesday (June 1).

First-team manager Craig Edwards will manage the academy side and has encouraged Year 11 pupils to give it a go.

“It is a really exciting programme and I want people to come and show what they can do at the trial day,” he said. “It is a full-time education football based programme and, so far, it has had a very good response.

“I hope that continues and I look forward to welcoming everyone next Wednesday.”

Edwards, and assistant Ben Dixon, hope that many of those selected for the programme will go on to play for the first team at the club, or gain football scholarships in America.

On completion of the course, players can choose to continue their education at university.

The trial next Wednesday are held at New Lodge, beginning at 10am and finishing at 2pm, and anyone wishing to register should visit wearescl.co.uk/billericay-fc.
