CANVEY Island manager said Potters Bar Town caught his side “on a bad day” as the Gulls look to book their FA Cup progress tonight.

Canvey drew 2-2 with the Southern League Division One Central side on Saturday, with the Gulls coming back from losing positions twice thanks to goals from Martin Tuohy and Tony Stokes to earn a replay.

The winners of the tie will host either Bath City or Oxford City in the next round, but Heale says all his focus is on putting a better display in against the Hertfordshire outfit this evening.

“We weren’t at our best but we are still in the hat and it is a home draw if we get through it which is important,” he said.

“I don’t want to talk about the next round yet otherwise we will come unstuck yet and it is disrespectful.

“Potters Bar were up for it and caught us on a bad day. We looked a bit nervous and after going down a goal early our play dropped which I didn't expect.

“I expected us to go on after the break and get the win but we weren’t where I wanted us to be.

"We need to be tonight and I expect us to be.”

Billericay Town were 2-1 winners in the FA Cup on Saturday, earning a home draw against Chippenham Town in the third qualifying round.

However, manager Craig Edwards’s focus is now on AFC Sudbury, as Town make the trip to Suffolk in the Ryman Premier League tonight.

Sudbury sit fourth in the league with 12 points from their first seven games, having made a very bright start to life in the division following promotion.

Billericay are down in 18th but have won four on the bounce and Edwards says they are full of confidence, having seen off Bognor Regis at the weekend.

“We are playing with a lot of confidence but the big ask is to ally that with consistency,” he said. “We have come from behind in recent games which is encouraging.

“It is an important week as we have three games against promoted sides (AFC Sudbury, Worthing and Folkestone Invicta) before the FA Cup tie.

“We need to get our focus back. Saturday was a great day with marvellous support and it is a good moment but I have been here long enough to know how quickly things can change.

"Two weeks ago we were in trouble but four wins later and things are going well again. We need to just make sure we prepare in the right way.

“We need to focus on that. Sudbury are tough proposition and I don’t know much about them.

"We will do our work on them and will give it a good go.”
