CANVEY Island went down against Kingstonian as they conceded late on to lose 2-1.

The Gulls were without goalkeeper Conor Gough after he suffered a serious finger injury, with Dagenham & Redbridge loanee Lewis Moore starting between the sticks.

Canvey started well, with Tony Stokes and Sheldon Sellears, who later went off injured, off target in the early exchanges against the K’s.

But Kingstonian's Ryan Moss came the closest early on as his header beat Moore but not Steve Sheehan who had read the danger and got back to clear off the line.

Moore had to be on his toes to keep out an under-hit back pass from Ryan O’Rawe but he couldn’t do anything about the opener.

With 30 minutes on the clock, Aaron Lamont moved into the penalty area and beat the keeper thanks to a deflection.

Moss saw a second effort well saved by Moore as the half closed.

It was a low-key start to the second-half, with clear-cut chances few and far between.

The introduction of Martin Tuohy saw Canvey push on, but it was his strike partner that put Canvey on level terms.

With 12 minutes remaining, Tony Stokes continued his excellent form to find the net once again, heading home Harrison Chatting’s cross.

But, just as Canvey were looking the most likely to nab the win, they fell behind once again. A cross from the right was brilliantly turned home by Pelayo Pico-Gomez, as he acrobatically found the net.

Moore made two more impressive late saves but it was to be a disappointing day in the end.
