BILLERICAY Town manager Craig Edwards says his side must develop a ruthless streak if they are to grow as a side, despite a run of six straight victories so far this month.

Town beat Worthing 3-0 on Saturday but Edwards said he still had to have strong words with his players afterwards following a number of spurned opportunities.

Folkestone Invicta are the next challenge in the Ryman Premier League for the rampaging Billericay, and Edwards says a good result heading into Saturday’s FA Cup third qualifying round match is very important.

“September is going well for us,” he said. “However, Saturday was probably the only time in my managerial career that we had won 3-0 but I had to have strong words with them afterwards. We weren’t ruthless enough and we allowed them back into the game when we were light-years in front of them.

“We need to put teams to the sword. We could have got six or seven, with respect to Worthing, but that is the youthfulness in this side.”

Folkestone were walloped 6-1 at Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday but sit 12th in the league having made a promising start in the division following promotion.

And Edwards is wary of the threat of the Kent side.

“It is important getting a good result ahead of Saturday,” he said. “When we started the season slowly we were desperate to turn it around. Now we have earned this run but a defeat could be costly. We must be on our guard.

“They have taken a hiding but I don’t think that will have any bearing at all. We just need to make sure we turn it on.”

Canvey Island’s form has worked something in reverse. After a promising start the team has dropped away in recent weeks, something boss Danny Heale will want to put right against Hendon this evening.

The Gulls sit just outside the relegation places having gone four without a win in the league.

However, Hendon have taken just a point more than their hosts tonight and were also on the back of a 6-0 hiding at Enfield Town on Saturday.

How will they respond tonight?
