LEON Gordon said he is confident he can play a key part in turning around Concord Rangers' season after re-joining the club.

The versatile 32-year-old linked back up with the club this week, having played the early part of this season with Great Wakering Rovers in the Ryman North.

Gordon, who spent two years at the club previously, told the Echo he was looking to wind down his career over the summer, having dropped two leagues, But he has now jumped back up to the National League South and says he is looking forward to taking on Hungerford Town tomorrow.

"One minute I was winding down and that was the intention," he said. "I started well at Wakering and got some goals and the only question for me at that level was my age but I have proved with Wakering that I can still turn it on.

"Concord came in and it was too good an opportunity to turn down the chance to play at that level again.

"It is difficult for Concord at the moment. I have experience and can play in several positions and I want to be able to do what I can. I want to help them and am very confident they can stay up and push on.

"As for Hungerford, I don't know much about them. I have been back in training with Concord and things have been going well. I hope that's the case tomorrow."

Gordon was thinking of hanging up his boots at the end of the season, but says he will not be able to make a decision on that until next summer.

But he was full of praise for Great Wakering, having made a positive contribution at Burroughs Park in his two months at the club.

"I will see how I go but I was debating whether to stop at the end of the year," he said. "We will have to wait and see.

"Wakering was good for me. It proved to me that I am able to still cut it. I am physically fit and it was about my head.

"I really think Wakering can do well this year," he added. "They have a good group and will do well. I want to thank them all for what they did for me. It was a great platform."
