l RUNDOWN: Billericay Town’s 10-match unbeaten run came to an end in the FA Cup against Maidstone United last weekend.

But Craig Edwards’ men can hold their heads up high after an excellent run in league and cup, ahead of a tough clash with Merstham.

Town are still unbeaten in their last five league matches and will fancy their chances in Surrey.

Merstham, by their own admission, have underperformed this season as they sit in 15th ahead of kick-off. However, they are just a point worse off than Billericay, five places above them, albeit having played two games more.

They also booked an FA Cup first round date with Oxford United last weekend.

l MANAGER’S VIEW: Town boss Craig Edwards said: “When we had good periods against Maidstone they scored. The third goal so soon after the second was a killer but we played well and the extra quality in the final third told.

“I have no qualms with the result. The unbeaten run is over but we played well against a very good side so I take a lot of confidence from that. It was the best I have seen support wise for a long time. They knew the boys had put a shift in.

“We now want to start another run and we are playing catch up in the league and are still in three cups.

“They have beat Tonbridge and Harrow well in recent times so are on form and are more than capable of going on to have a very good season. They have done well and we will have to be at our best.”
