STEVE Cawley’s hat-trick helped Concord Rangers back to form as they crushed Margate 5-1 on their travels.

Cawley struck three times, plus goals from Jordan Chiedozie and Audrius Laucys helped Adam Flanagan’s side to a comprehensive result, with both sides reduced to 10 men.

The Beach Boys were looking to get off the bottom of the standings against the Kent side, although Margate would also be viewing this as a golden chance to get some more points on the board.

And the hosts started well, with the ball worked down the wing and a fine cross was played narrowly in front of Adam Cash who couldn’t quite get his toe on the ball.

And it appeared as though Gate had opened the scoring soon after, when Elliott Buchanan broke through to beat Ben McNamara only for the offside flag to deny him.

However, the first goal came against the run of play. The ball was worked into the home penalty area and Chiedozie was in the right place at the right time to head home from close range.

And things got even better for the away side when Luke Moore was shown a straight red card for the hosts, for an alleged elbow.

Cawley was denied, while Adam Topley struck wide from long range as the visitors turned up the heat.

But Cawley was to get a much-needed goal before long, striking past goalkeeper Jordan Carey 10 minutes before half-time.

Chiedozie hit the post while Joao Carlos missed two golden chances, shooting off target with the keeper off his line and clipping the crossbar.

Cawley added a third three minutes after the break, after a Chiedozie effort bounced off the upright.

Concord were rampant although a moment of madness from Carlos made it 10-a-side, as he crashed into former Beach Boy Alex Osborn and was dismissed on 57 minutes.

But that didn’t stop Concord. Audrius Laucys made it 4-0 on 62 minutes with an emphatic finish, firing into the far corner.

And then Cawley completed his hat-trick, nicking the ball off the hapless keeper’s foot and scoring with more than 20 minutes to play.

Margate did get on the scoresheet with 15 minutes remaining, with Harry Phipps’ header too good for Ben McNamara.

But it was a very good day for the away side, who handed a senior debut to under-18 Finley Dopson.
