CANVEY Island made it back-to-back 3-0 wins against Lowestoft Town as they thumped the Suffolk side to end a poor run of home results.

The Gulls had won the reverse fixture just weeks ago and manager Danny Heale was desperate for more of the same after several rotten home results recently.

Town started the brighter with Rory McAuley denied by Lewis Moore in the home goal, with Chris Henderson denied by the custodian soon after.

Alfred Mugabo, making his debut after joining on a month’s loan from Dulwich Hamlet, had the first real effort for Canvey but his free-kick was off target.

Canvey had a goal ruled out before they did score first.

George Sykes showed impeccable control and played in Mitchell Gilbey who shot through the goalkeepers’ legs to score.

Ryan Jarvis missed a golden chance to draw back on terms, shooting over with just Moore to beat, while Omarr Lawson had a header cleared off the line as the Gulls man had a header cleared off the line.

Canvey couldn’t have come much closer to doubling their advantage 10 minutes after the break, with Sykes hitting the post, Martin Tuohy denied by the goalkeeper and Harrison Chatting’s rebound blocked behind.

But it was 2-0, and deservedly so, minutes later. Tuohy sent in a cross which Gilbey blasted off the frame of the goal via the goalkeeper’s fingers. But Sykes was on hand to net the loose ball.

John Mbamarah continued his impressive start to life at Canvey with a goal-saving last-ditch challenge and it spurred the hosts onto a third goal.

Sykes was again instrumental in the build-up, teeing up Tuohy for an overdue goal.

It was to get worse for Lowestoft, who had Rory McAuley sent off for a second yellow card, as Canvey gave the home faithful something to cheer about.
