CANVEY Island boss Danny Heale is keen for his new look side to make it three games without defeat when they head to Kingstonian in the Ryman Premier League tomorrow.

The Gulls have endured a disappointing start to the season and are currently 20th in the 24 team table.

But Heale has opted to shake up his squad in the past couple of weeks and hopes the Islanders are now back on the up.

“We’ve changed things around a bit, which is what we needed, and so far the signs have been promising so hopefully we can keep it going now,” said Heale.

“We’ve signed two or three new players and two or three have also moved on which is what we felt needed to happen.

“Those coming in to the group have done well and got us back to back clean sheets which has been really promising, especially after the number of goals we had previously been conceding.

“We’ve also got four points out of the last six on offer.

“And with the club-house opening in about a week’s time everything is starting to look quite exciting again.

“Hopefully that can generate the funds to get ourselves going.

“But we have to keep getting it right on the pitch.”

Canvey have brought in midfielder Alfred Mugabo from Dulwich on loan plus centre-back John Mbamarah from Wingate and and midfielder Ryan Blackman from Waltham Abbey.

Moving in the opposite direction are Joey May and Junior Luke who have both now departed and the heavily altered team triumphed 3-0 against Lowestoft Town at the Frost Financial Stadium last weekend.

But Heale is expecting another difficult test against a Kingstonian side who are currently 13th in the table and beat Canvey 2-1 back in September.

“Kingstonian are a strong side but they scored in the 87th minute last time we played them and we felt a little bit hard done by because we didn’t deserve to lose in our opinion ,” said Heale.

“That’s kind of the way our season has been going so far but we’re looking to turn things around now.

“We want to build on the good win we had against Lowestoft and pick up more points.

“But we know we’re in for a difficult game because they always are against Kingstonian.”

Canvey sit six points behind Kingstonian with two games in hand on their hosts who have been beaten in their last two matches having previously not been defeated in seven outings.

The Islanders will also be boosted by the return of Blackman from suspension this weekend but defender Jack Lampe faces a late fitness test on a groin problem and Dominic Green is out with a knee injury.
