KEITH Wilson believes Great Wakering Rovers’ clash with rock bottom Thamesmead Town tomorrow will be ‘massive’ for his side’s season.

Wakering head into the crucial Ryman North encounter sitting third from bottom in the standings, three points clear of their fellow strugglers having played three games more.

And Wilson is therefore desperate for his team to triumph.

“There can be no denying this is a massive game and it’s one that is very important we win,” said the Wakering boss.

“We lost last weekend against one of the sides (Wroxham) who are also down there with us and we can’t afford to let it happen again.

“It’s by no means make or break because it’s still only December and there is a lot still to play for whatever the outcome tomorrow.

“But three points would give us all a big boost and that’s obviously what we’re aiming for.”

Wakering will be without John Easterford this weekend as the defender is set to undergo surgery on an ingrowing toe-nail.

However, Jimmy Nottage - who missed the midweek defeat to Aveley due to traffic problems on the M25 - is free to return.

And Wilson is looking for Rovers to build on what he described as a positive performance against Aveley, despite the 4-2 defeat.

“I thought Tuesday was the best we’ve played since I’ve been here and for large spells of the game we were the better team,” said Wilson.

“We need to maintain that level of performance but we have to make sure we defend much better.

“At the moment we’re making too many mistakes and we’re being punished for them.

“But the positive thing is that we look dangerous at the other end of the field and we’re scoring goals.”
