IT is back-to-back defeats for Bowers & Pitsea as they missed a number of chances and went down to a resurgent Thamesmead Town.

Bowers had seen their nine-match winning run halted emphatically by Witham Town last time out and they faced a much improved Thamesmead.

Mead had won seven of the last eight to climb clear of relegation trouble, but Bowers started the brighter.

Lewis Manor, back after missing the Witham defeat, shot just wide when well placed.

Manor exchanged passes with Alfie Hilton only to see the chance smothered by the home goalkeeper.

Ross Adams was tended to followed a clash of heads, with Manor heading another good chance wide following the resumption of play.

Bowers deserved to be ahead and they did break the deadlock five minutes before the interval.

Manor played the ball into David Knight and the forward arrowed a shot into the bottom corner.

Away goalkeeper Rhys Madden wasn’t called into action until moments before the whistle, making a smart stop before Mead hit the bar with a deflected effort.

Manor headed wide of the post as his search for a goal went on and, on the hour mark, Mead turned the game on its head.

Alex Teniola pounced after Madden could only parry a free-kick and it was 1-1.

And minutes later they were ahead, with Bode Anidugbe finishing with aplomb.

Bowers probed as they searched for a leveller but it wasn’t forthcoming.
