SOUTHEND Manor manager Stuart Marshall admits the failure to apply for promotion has come as a big blow as they continue to fight at the summit of the Essex Senior League.

Manor are the only local side in league action this weekend, with a tricky trip to Sawbridgeworth Town on the agenda.

And Marshall is eyeing up three more points, with Manor just a point behind leaders Barking.

And the Manor boss couldn’t hide his frustration after Manor didn’t apply for promotion to the Ryman North earlier in the campaign.

“The Sawbridgeworth game will be a very tough test,” said Marshall. “They are on a good run and I believe they will finish the season in the top six.

“The boys have been fantastic this season and I am looking for a final big push.

“We need to continue our run and keep putting pressure on Barking and hope they slip up.

“In terms of not applying for promotion it has really put a dent in our season. I felt we should apply and at least give ourselves that opportunity of challenging.

“It has had an impact on the dressing room but I have asked them to continue putting in the effort they have been.

“I want them to have something to show for their efforts at the end of the season. I am ambitious and want to challenge as high as possible.

“We are looking for a top three finish in the main. After that we can look at the situation and see if or how we can move forward.”
