GREAT Wakering Rovers’ Ryman North survival hopes took a further blow as they were defeated by Witham Town.

Nathan Koranteng put the away side ahead just after the half hour mark.

Scott Kemp doubled Witham’s lead six minutes before the interval.

And things went from bad to worse for Wakering as Stephen Butterworth was dismissed on the stroke of half time.

Kemp grabbed his second just after the break to put the visitors three goals to the good.

Witham striker Tim Monsheju joined Butterworth in being sent to the changing rooms early as he was given his marching orders by the referee on the hour mark.

Harley Kee reduced the deficit with 12 minutes to play as he poked home past Witham goalkeeper Reece Paine.

But Wakering failed to add to Kee’s strike and so remain in deep trouble.

Wakering have now taken just one point from a possible nine since Iain O’Connell replaced Keith Wilson in the dugout.

Rovers are currently second from bottom in the Ryman North standings, with only Wroxham having a worse record in the division.

Wakering, who have not won since they secured a 1-0 win at Witham in December, are now 13 points off safety with only seven games left to play.
