FORMER Concord Rangers midfielder Ben Greenhalgh thinks the Beach Boys are not in danger of being relegated from the National League South.

Greenhalgh is likely to start in the heart of the Hemel Hempstead Town midfield as he returns to the Aspect Arena for the first time since leaving the club last year.

And Greenhalgh, who still looks for Concord’s results every weekend, believes Adam Flanagan’s side are too good to go down despite being only four points above the drop zone.

Greenhalgh said: “I think Concord will stay up.

“We have played against other teams who are down there, like Gosport Borough, and Concord are a lot better than them.

“I keep an eye out for their results and they have been unlucky at times.

“But I’m still sure they will be fine.”

The midfielder, who enjoyed a stint with Italian giants Inter Milan during the early stages of his career, can’t wait to take on his former side.

And the 24-year-old has good memories of two stints with the Beach Boys.

“It will be the first time I have played against them since leaving so I am looking forward to it,” added Greenhalgh.

“I joined them when we won the play-offs in the Ryman Premier League, which was a big success for the club.

“There has always been a good atmosphere at the club and it was great to be involved in a successful time for Concord.”

Although Greenhalgh still holds his former employers in high regard, the former Inverness Caledonian Thistle man is aiming to pick up three points for Hemel Hempstead Town.

Greenhalgh, who is with the 10th placed side on loan from National League side Maidstone United, admitted: “Of course I’m going there to do a job for Hemel Hempstead Town and we are looking to win.

“When I joined we were 15 points off the play-off places and the aim was to make the top five, which was a ridiculous ask.

“We have dropped some points that we shouldn’t have and got some poor results.

“But if the season started when I joined, we would definitely be in the play-offs.”
