BILLY Bricknell says he is delighted to join such illustrious company in the Billericay Town Hall of Fame after his hat-trick helped secure an 8-3 Ryman League Cup victory against Tonbridge Angels.

Bricknell’s 16 minute treble meant he was only the second ever player to score three goals in a cup final for the club - following Doug Young’s hat-trick in the FA Vase final victory of 1979.

And the 31-goal striker said, although he was only told about the feat afterwards, he was so pleased equal the club legend’s achievement.

“I was told Doug scored the last hat-trick in a final,” said Bricknell. “I didn’t see him after the game but I am sure if he is in the bar I will have a chat with him. I would like that.

“We got the job done,” he added. “To get to 31 goals for the season is great as I haven’t got many recently so that made up for it a bit. Getting three in a final is a great feeling of course.”

Town ran riot at Carshalton Athletic’s ground, scoring six of their eight goals 15 minutes either side of half-time.

And Bricknell said the new narrow formation, with Paul Konchesky playing in front of a back three and Adam Cunnington playing behind Jake Robinson and himself was working well.

“We are settling into the formation and with the players we have got we can obliterate teams," he said.

“We had so many chances but we have still scored eight so we can’t complain too much.

“But we always want to improve of course.”
