My third Essex review comes from the balcony of Radlett Cricket Club. It says it’s eight degrees but with this breeze it feels about three.

Reviewing the last Essex match against Middlesex - all I can say is thank you Mr Weatherman.

We chose to bowl on a what was a rather flat and slowish wicket, however the main reason for the decision was based on the overheads as the ball did swing in the warm up.

Jamie Porter bowled very well with not much luck and caused problems outside the off stump.

We batted well in patches but, with a mammoth chase, you would think that a draw was on the cards early doors.

Credit to Middlesex as they did bowl well in both innings but thankfully, in Essex’s case, the weather played its part and we escaped with a draw with some good lower order resilience.

It seems to be a theme that we are a fighting side.

However due to some poor batting and bowling in the first innings we have been forced to fight our way back in these matches.

But a win and two draws and a place in midtable is a good place to be after three games.

Now, looking towards white ball cricket this weekend with a One-Day Cup match against Hampshire.

It will be a good change for the squad and will give us a new focus.

Hopefully I will make a debut in the next few weeks, and it will be interesting to see if there are many changes to the starting 11.

Varun Chopra is sitting in the wings, as well as all-rounder Paul Walter who has been performing well in the second team.

White ball cricket has always been something Essex have competed well in and we will be looking to do the same again.
