SAM Deering says Billericay Town are out to make a statement when they get their Isthmian Premier League campaign underway.

Town host Kingstonian tomorrow, as they bid to fulfil manager Glenn Tamplin’s wishes and win the league this season.

Deering, 26, is one of a host of new signings made this summer and he has made quite an impression.

With six goals in pre-season, Deering has been arguably Tamplin’s most eye-catching recruit to date.

But he says he is determined to kick on after a promising start, now the league campaign is beginning.

“I am delighted with my early performances and I am feeling confident,” said Deering, who has joined from Ebbsfleet United.

“I have six goals in pre-season and it is a good stepping stone to take into the league.

“The goals mean nothing now in terms of points but I am pleased to score and hopefully I can continue doing well in the months ahead.

“Tomorrow is a big game and it is our chance to make a statement, to our opponents and the league as a whole.”

Deering has struck up a good partnership with his fellow attackers and is likely to play just behind a central striker.

And Deering, who was voted man-of-the-match in last season’s National League South play-off final, says he is enjoying his role in the team.

“It is hard not to enjoy playing in this team,” he said.

“You can see the quality and the new players are all able to adapt and fit in to what needs to be done.

“It is second nature to good players and the guys that have just joined have done really well.

“My first impressions are really good. Glenn has built a good group and we all just want to get started.

“In terms of Kingstonian, I don’t know much about them but I won’t take them lightly.

“We will approach each game the same and give them credit where it is due.

“We are at home and we want to make this place a fortress.”

THE PREVIEW: Billericay Town begin their league campaign with the weight of a promise to win the title behind them.

Billericay have spent thousands of pounds improving their ground and squad, with manager Glenn Tamplin vowing this is the year they will win promotion to the National League South.

First up is a match against Kingstonian and former manager Craig Edwards, who departed Town last March, citing ‘broken promises’ as a reason for his exit.

The K’s only narrowly avoided relegation last year, but they are likely to be a much more resilient outfit under Edwards.

MEN TO WATCH: Sam Deering and Jermaine Pennant caught the eye in the friendly win over a West Ham United XI, with Billy Bricknell and Louie Theophanous set to get the nod in other attacking areas.

Former Billericay pair Ricky Sappleton and Tom Derry are part of the Kingstonian set-up this season.

WHEN & WHERE: Tomorrow, 3pm, The AGP Arena, Blunts Wall Road, Billericay, CM12 9SA.

WHAT THE BOSS SAID: “I am very confident we will win this match because of the mindset that the group have at the moment,” said manager Glenn Tamplin.

“That said, I believe every team will raise their game 20 per cent when they come here and play us.

“Many of my haters will play for the opponents or be supporting the opposition and it is up to us to deal with that.

“People will be gunning for us.”

TEAM NEWS: Rob Swaine (head injury) is a serious doubt. Rob Davies will return in what is otherwise a fully-fit squad.
