SOUTHEND Manor face their second local derby in as many games as they bid to continue their perfect start to the season against Great Wakering Rovers.

Manor have two 1-0 victories under their belts to date - in the Essex Senior League and FA Cup - and are among a number of clubs tipped to impress this campaign.

Wakering won on the opening day but have since suffered two defeats, including last Saturday’s heavy 5-1 FA Cup loss at Newmarket Town.

But Manor boss Stuart Marshall is expecting a tight game at Burroughs Park.

“It will be tough,” he said. “Wakering will be in the mix come April and they will want a response after two disappointing results.

“It may be a local derby but to me it is just another game and one we need to be at our best in.

“We have made a good start but it is a long season and we need to keep it up.”

Great Wakering are without Billy Johnson, Jordan Nobbs and Harley Kee, with Ricky Evans suspended. Scott Pethers and Jason Ring return.

Basildon United will also be aiming to continue an unbeaten start when they play early bottom club Wadham Lodge.

The Bees came through an FA Cup replay on Tuesday, with manager Marc Harrison full of praise for his side’s display.

And, following a big turn-out against Clapton, Harrison wants another big crowd tomorrow.

He said: “I am ambitious and I want to see as many people here as possible.

"We have started the season well and are playing nice football so please come along and support us.”

Hullbridge Sports were hugely impressive FA Cup winners last time out but are still looking for their first league triumph of term.

They travel to Sporting Bengal tomorrow, who are also gunning for some points in the league.

Sports’ only injury doubt is over player/manager Rob Hodgson.
