ADAM Cunnington scored a brace on his birthday to help Billericay Town to a thrilling 4-3 win over Hendon.

Cunnington netted twice, with Ricky Modeste and Billy Bricknell also on target for Town.

Hendon had led twice and scored in the final moments of the match to make for a nervy ending, but the hosts held on.

Town remained strong favourites against the second-placed team, who had played three more games already this term.

But Hendon took the lead after just three minutes.

Ashley Nathaniel-George found space from 20 yards and he lashed excellently into the top corner past Alan Julian.

The hosts needed a quick reaction and they almost got one through Louie Theophanous but the striker’s header was expertly tipped over by Tom Lovelock.

But it wasn’t long before the leaders drew parity. The on-form Modeste profited from a Rob Swaine flick-on to head the hosts level.

It had been a flying start to the match. And Hendon were proving more than a match for the big-spending hosts.

Keagen Cole curled a brilliant effort beyond Julian with just 18 minutes on the clock to make it 2-1.

Three goals in 18 minutes became four in 20 minutes soon after, with Cunnington the man on target.

Celebrating his birthday, the tall striker made no mistake with his finish.

Cole hit the bar as the game continued to ebb and flow, with Julian tipping a near-post header wide of the post.

But Billericay were to take the lead into half-time. Awarded a penalty, Bricknell made no mistake from 12 yards.

And then Cunnington put Billericay in charge, sending a full-length diving header into the corner.

That was it for a thrilling first-half, with the second period was a much quieter affair.

The only goal of the half came with just two minutes to spare. Nathaniel-George scored again but Billericay had done enough.
