BASILDON United and Great Wakering Rovers continue to set the pace in the Essex Senior League as both took three points this weekend, although Southend Manor's match was abandoned due to a serious injury.

Basildon hosted Stansted and there was little between the two in the first 45 minutes, with Bees looking more creative in the attacking third.

Basildon took the lead on the stroke of half-time. Ash Blackburn, so often the Bees’ go-to guy, netted to put Marc Harrison’s team in charge.

And that was how it stayed, as the defence held firm to preserve the clean-sheet.

Great Wakering were 2-0 winners at Waltham Forest.

Ollie Woodhouse had put Great Wakering into the lead as they looked to maintain the pace at the top of the standings.

They took that lead into the break and extended the advantage after the break.

Jake Gordon powered into the net to ensure all three points would be heading back to Burroughs Park.

Southend Manor’s match was abandoned after 80 minutes, following a serious injury to goalkeeper Liam Pitts.

Manor were 3-0 down with 10 minutes to play, before the referee decided to abandon proceedings.

Hullbridge were walloped 4-1 by FA Romania, in a match that saw all the goals scored in the second-half.

All square at half-time, Romania scored on 55 and 62 minutes to move into a commanding position.

Howard Wright pulled a goal back on 66 minutes, but Sports conceded two in the next four minutes as Romania ran out comfortable winners.
