GREAT Wakering Rovers are aiming to keep the Clapton Ultras quiet as they bid to hang on to top spot in the Essex Senior League this weekend.

Rovers are currently joint top with Basildon United, who have played one game less.

Iain O’Connell has led his team on a seven match winning run in all competitions, but he accepts tomorrow is likely to be a lively occasion.

“It is going well and we are strong,” said O’Connell. “They are well supported and it will be a tough match.

“But it should be something the players embrace as you don’t get to play in front of a crowd like that every week.”

Rovers are without Harley Kee, Matt Belcher, Jimmy Cook and Charlie Kirby.

Basildon were 5-0 winners in the Errington Challenge Cup on Wednesday - with Jack Adlington scoring a hat-trick - as their excellent form under Marc Harrison continued.

The Bees have won six of the last seven and kept clean sheets in six of those games.

And Harrison is hopeful that run can continue at newly-formed Woodford Town.

“We have not conceded a goal from open play in almost 700 minutes of football,” said Harrison. “We are lucky to have players that can get the goals but we are based on a strong defence.

“As for Woodford, on their day they can be good. We are not taking chances and we will give it our best.”

Southend Manor, fresh from an outstanding win at Braintree Town in the Essex Senior Cup, visit Sawbridgeworth Town in the league.

Boss Stuart Marshall said a win in this game was more important than progress in the cup, and he has a fully fit squad to choose from for the encounter.

Hullbridge Sports are second-from-bottom having won just two of their first 11 matches.

A home match against struggling Hackney Wick provides a perfect opportunity to get back on track, although they are beset with injuries and suspensions.

Eight first-team players are expected to miss out tomorrow.
