CONCORD Rangers manager Adam Flanagan is hoping his side can secure an FA Cup first round tie with Bury by beating Woking tonight.

The FA Cup first round draw was made last night and Concord’s reward for a fourth qualifying round replay win over the National League side would be a visit from the League One Shakers.

And although Flanagan was hoping for a tie away to a Football League side, the Beach Boys chief will be relishing a potential meeting with Bury.

Flanagan said: “I think from a player, manager and club perspective, when you get to the first round you want to get the biggest Football League club in the competition.

“First round appearances in the FA Cup do not happen as frequently as you would like or hope so when you get there you want the dream, which is a game in front of lots of fans at a Football League arena.

“We are not there yet, so we can’t look beyond Woking, but that’s the dream and we get another crack at trying to fulfil it tonight.”

Steve Cawley netted a wonder goal to give Flanagan’s charges the lead just past the half hour mark in the initial tie at Kingfield Stadium on Saturday.

But Jamie Philpot equalised for the home side with just seven minutes remaining to deny Concord a famous win.

And Flanagan was delighted with his side’s performance.

Flanagan added: “I was very pleased with the performance as the players stuck to the game plan we had worked on leading up to the game.

“Through doing that, we were able to run a very good team close.”

While a clash with Bury may be attractive to the Beach Boys, they will need to see off Woking first.

And Flanagan is aware that the National League side will also be eager to face the League One club.

Flanagan admitted: “The players put a lot of effort into Saturday and they may struggle to put the same levels in again in such a short recovery period.

“Our players went to work yesterday and will do today as well, whereas the Woking players will have had a recovery session yesterday and then gone over tactics.

“This is the difference between the levels both clubs find themselves at and something we have to accept.

“I know the players were a bit deflated on Saturday but they will take confidence from the game and hopefully, with an exciting draw for the winner, this will give our lads the extra motivation to help fight the tiredness they might have going into the game.”
