ESSEX Senior League high-flyers Great Wakering Rovers and Basildon United will be looking to get back to winning ways tonight.

Both sides suffered defeats on Saturday, which saw them drop down the standings.

Iain O’Connell’s side were beaten 2-0 by Clapton, which resulted in Wakering losing their grip on top spot.

And Takeley’s entertaining 5-4 victory over Enfield 1893 allowed them to leapfrog Wakering and land on the summit.

But Wakering will be aiming to get their season back on track when they welcome Sawbridgeworth Town to Burroughs Park this evening.

The visitors have only notched two wins so far this term, and are struggling in 17th place.

Meanwhile, Basildon United will also be hoping to make home advantage count as they take on Barkingside.

Marc Harrison’s Bees were condemned to just their second reverse of the campaign at the weekend, as they lost 3-2 to Woodford Town.

The Bees came from behind twice to level, as Marcus Bowers and Ash Blackburn hit the target.

But Harrison’s charges were not able to equalise for a third time and dropped to fourth in the Essex Senior League standings.

Basildon United will entertain Barkingside at the Stuart Bingham Stadium, with the visitors having made a decent start to the season.

Barkingside have claimed five wins from their opening 11 league fixtures, but were defeated 1-0 by Ilford last time out.

And the away side will have to break down a resolute Basildon United defence.

The Bees have kept clean sheets in six of their last seven encounters, and have clinched as many victories in that time.

Although the hosts will go into the clash in fourth place, favourable results could see them go top.
