There are a number of games I could choose. There was the night we won the Essex Senior League against Hullbridge Sports but the FA Vase run in 2015/16 was so memorable for so many reasons.

There were some great games that year and people might expect me to say the semi-final as that was the final game in our run but the quarter-final against Kidlington had everything. It finished 3-3 after extra-time but we could so easily have lost with the last kick.

The pitch was an absolute bog and our quarter-final earlier that week had to be played at Canvey so this game would stand a chance.

It was a good crowd and we knew little about them, which I find exciting. We were 2-0 down really quickly in the game and I thought ‘these are good’.

But we managed to get a goal back against the run of play through Alfie Hilton. They thought they had scored a third goal only for the ball to get stuck in the muddy goalmouth and we went in at half-time 2-1 down.

James Stevens scored a brilliant free-kick to level and at that stage I felt we were dominant. Lewis Manor put us 3-2 up before they equalised again and the game went to extra-time.

And in the last minute of extra-time I thought we had lost it.

They had a striker who had scored about 40 goals and he headed wide when he had the whole goal to aim at.

We managed to stay in the tie and went to Oxfordshire on the Saturday and did a complete number on them.

We won 4-0 and the celebrations at the end of that replay are something I will never forget. They thought they had it wrapped up.

They had made some comments about how they were going to smash us and we heard an interview on the radio on the way to their place too, with them talk about the semi-final. They were so confident and it was perfect motivation.

I remember having to do press afterwards and all the players wanted to soak me with champagne in the changing room. It was a great run and why we love football.
