HULLBRIDGE Sports are out of the FA Vase after they were well beaten by Tring Athletic on their travels.

Sports were looking for their first ever fifth round appearance on their fourth occasion at this stage.

But a goal of real misfortune had Tring in front early on. Shaun Coe’s attempted clearance was going out for a corner before it struck Gus Douglas and spun into the net.

Mike Salako hit the crossbar up the other end before a potentially decisive blow two minutes into the second half.

A near post cross was met by Jack Read and the advantage was doubled.

Chris Vardy made the most of a slip in the Sports backline to make it 3-0 and although Jimmy Cox pulled a goal back from the penalty spot with 25 minutes remaining the three goal advantage was restored shortly afterwards.

A fifth Tring goal in the final five minutes wrapped up what was a comfortable result in the end.

Basildon United were pegged back late on as they failed to close the gap at the top of the Essex Senior League.

Luke Hornsley had put the Bees ahead early in the second half against West Essex but the visitors hit back late on to secure a share of the spoils.

Great Wakering Rovers were 2-0 winners against bottom club Hackney Wick.

Rovers needed to bring all the points back from their trip and they made the best possible start.

Jay Nash scored after just eight minutes and Steve Butterworth doubled the lead 12 minutes later.

And that was how it stayed.
