HULLBRIDGE Sports secured a superb 3-2 win against West Essex to defy the odds and climb the Essex Senior League table.

Sports took the lead early on against a West Essex side eyeing a top six spot this season.

A fine cross from Luca Frankis found Michael Salako and he tapped home for Darren Manning’s team.

Mikey Cooke doubled Sports’ lead to put the away team in dreamland but West Essex were to halve the deficit before the break.

Goalkeeper Russell Harley made an excellent save before Frankis restored the two goal lead in the final 10 minutes.

Although West Essex got another goal back it was too late to effect the scoreline.

Great Wakering Rovers thrashed Tower Hamlets 6-1 to continue their surge near the summit.

Nathan Dewberry and Billy Johnson hat-tricks downed Hamlets.

Just 10 minutes were on the clock when Dewberry scored his first goal for Wakering.

And the same man doubled his account on 18 minutes before Hamlets pulled a goal back.

But a quick-fire Johnson brace – the first an excellent free-kick – put Wakering 4-1 up at the interval.

The double act completed their trebles in the second half to complete the rout.

Basildon United scored seven against the division’s bottom side Hackney Wick to continue their ascendency in the league.

The Bees were 3-0 up at the break against the division’s bottom side and were awarded four penalties on the day.

Braces from Marcus Bowers and Sam Marsh got the Bees on their way, with further goals from Jack Adlington, Luke Hornsley and Joe Burgess.

Southend Manor beat Wadham Lodge 3-2 thanks to goals from Rhys Fatt, Hamid Zamani and Jamie Alexandrou.
