After robbing Tilbury of the three points on Tuesday I thought we were good value for our points on Saturday at Brentwood Town.

Brentwood are a good footballing side and showed more ambition to get the ball down and play than we did.

Despite the gap in points we still turned up at Brentwood as an underdog in many respects and had to adapt our approach, which the players did well.

The most pleasing aspect in both games last week was the character in the group to recover from setbacks.

As each week passes there seems to be more expectation from the outside world so it will be nice over the next four weeks for the teams around us to catch up on their games and show the league table for how it really is.

I would probably consider our true league position to be between fifth and seventh as things stand.

Believe it or not, I was glad to see AFC Hornchurch overcome Waltham Abbey the way they did as Waltham Abbey are another play-off hopeful [the Urchins won 5-4 with a last-minute winner].

We are not competing with the likes of Hornchurch, let’s be clear on that.

With regard to the other teams playing their games in hand, I will say it’s quite nice for us to be able to take a watching brief even if it does see us slip down the table.

We have a small squad, so recovery will be important in the weeks ahead.

We haven’t come this far by making wholesale changes or ‘shaking things up’ when things don’t go well.

I believe in these boys and I enjoy working with them.

Lastly, huge congratulations to East Thurrock United on their FA Trophy win against Chester at the weekend. I shouldn’t really be surprised!
