JACK Giddens says he feels like he is getting his match sharpness back after making the loan move to Canvey Island.

The Billericay Town goalkeeper will ply his trade at Park Lane for the next month as he bids to get more first team football under his belt.

Giddens has only played six times for Town this season and is yet to play in the Isthmian Premier League due to the form of Alan Julian.

And, having kept his first clean sheet for the Gulls in Tuesday night’s 3-0 win against Heybridge Swifts, the stopper is targeting a fruitful next three weeks as he bids to end the season on a high.

“It has been good playing the last two matches for Canvey,” said Giddens.

“I am getting back in among things and it is always good to keep a clean sheet.

“Game time is what everyone needs and it is of benefit to Canvey and Billericay. I need to be in the best form if I am called upon so getting minutes is beneficial to all parties.

“I am here for a month and depending on the situation at Billericay then it could be extended - I am not sure.”

The three points against Swifts took Canvey up to third in the Isthmian North. Wins in their three games in hand will see them leapfrog Bowers & Pitsea and return to the automatic promotion places.

And Giddens is determined to help his new employers achieve their goals.

“I thought the result was a fair reflection of the game,” he said.

“In the first half we were very dominant. I had to save one from Kresh (Krasniqi) but aside from that it was fairly comfortable.

“I didn’t have much to do, but I kicked well and did what I needed to do.

“If Heybridge go 1-0 up, who knows what will happen. It could be a game changing save, but I was just pleased to play a part and help the team.

“Heybridge have a good squad and although they are struggling in the league I think they will come through it.

“The amount of games they have might mean they have to play Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and that will make it hard.

“But I believe they can still do well.

“We have shown we have the squad and the team to do well this season. We need to win these games coming up. We believe in ourselves.”
