Bath City 2-0 Concord Rangers

(Batten 45’, Compton 78’)

From Twerton Park

National League South

CONCORD Rangers’ long unbeaten run in the National League South was ended by Bath City.

The Beach Boys were unbeaten in 13 league matches and were determined to continue that record in the West Country.

But it wasn’t to be, as goals in either half saw the run end.

However Bath had ambitions of a play-off position comes the end of the season.

It appeared Concord had taken an early advantage but they were to be denied by the assistant referee’s flag.

A Steve Cawley cross was met by winger Ben Greenhalgh who finished well into the corner only for the flag to be raised.

The first chance for the home team could also have brought a goal. Tom Smith was played clean through and looked odds on to score, but Louis Wells got down superbly to block away.

It was Bath who thought they had got the first goal next, only for the flag to once again halt celebrations.

James Morton fed Smith who slid the ball beyond Wells, but it was to no avail.

But the goal was to come before half-time. A fine free-kick was sent into the penalty area and Jack Batten’s header found the net to give Bath the lead.

In the second half, both sides had chances to get the second goal of the match but when it came it was to the visitors.

Jack Compton took aim from long range and sent a terrific strike into the top corner.

A debut for 17-year-old Zack Littlejohn was the brightest spot of the second period as Concord went down on their travels.
