BASILDON United walloped Enfield 1893 4-1 in the Essex Senior League as they closed the gap at the top of the standings.

The Bees scored early on and it once again came from the penalty spot. Basildon were awarded four penalties last weekend and it didn’t take long for another one to arrive.

Marcus Bowers took it and finished with aplomb. Not long after it was 2-0, Jack Adlington on target as Basildon looked for a repeat of last Saturday’s 7-0 victory.

A Bowers back heel made it 3-0 before the break, following a mistake from the goalkeeper, with Marc Harrison’s men in cruise control.

Adlington completed his brace early in the second period although Enfield were to get a goal back on the hour.

But a late red card compounded a miserable afternoon for the hosts.

Southend Manor and Great Wakering Rovers’ matches were postponed.
