KHALE Da Costa believes Concord Rangers’ target of 50 points is still attainable in the closing weeks of the season.

The Beach Boys have currently accrued 37 points with seven matches left to ensure their National League South safety.

They welcome third-placed Hampton & Richmond Borough to the Aspect Arena tomorrow bidding to extend the gap between themselves and Poole Town, who are presently occupying the final relegation place.

Yet Da Costa is unconcerned at the size of the challenge, and has backed his team-mates to come good.

“It has been a long season for us all but we have a job to do,” said the 24-year-old, who joined from Hendon in the summer.

“We need to pick up our form and build on what was a good display against Chelmsford City last time out.

“We had a bad day in the office against East Thurrock United [a 4-1 defeat] but we matched Chelmsford at the weekend despite the gap between us in the league.

“Hampton are a talented side and we don’t fear anyone. We can match anyone in this league on our day.

“We have set a target of 50 points and I know once we get that we will be safe, and we will continue to fight. We have been on long runs before and we can do it again.”

Da Costa has become a firm supporters’ favourite since joining the club.

Six goals to date, the winger is targeting 10 this term along with 15 assists.

And although he is a doubt ahead of this weekend’s clash with a hamstring strain, Da Costa has affirmed his confidence in his team-mates.

“We must remember that our fate is still in our own hands,” he said. “I am carrying a bit of a knock but I still believe I can achieve my own targets and the team can meet theirs.

“Football is what matters to me. I have learned a lot at Concord and it has been a pleasure.

“It is small club but with a big heart. I like the characters and you can be yourself here, which is important.”
