JAKE Robinson broke a 20-year record to etch himself into Billericay Town folklore as his team edged closer to the Isthmian Premier League title.

The striker moved past Leon Gutzmore’s 51 goals for the season as Billericay defeated Staines 5-3 at the AGP Arena.

A terrific first half began with Alan Julian making a smart stop before Billericay went up the other end to break the deadlock.

A set-piece was swung in and Matt Paine angled a fine header into the corner.

The same man saw another header tipped over before Billy Bricknell got his name on the scoresheet – his header too powerful for the goalkeeper to stop.

Elliot Buchanan was denied before he did pull one back. The 27-goal striker added another for the season with a powerful strike from the edge of the penalty area on the half hour but Billericay were more than able to match it.

Ricky Modeste sent a stunning goal into the top corner to make it 3-1 but the first half action was still not done.

A Max Worsfeld free-kick beat Julian all ends up as a breath-taking first half was brought to a close.

An injury to Modeste resulted in a disrupted start to the second period but it was brought to light by his replacement.

Robinson curled an unstoppable shot into the top corner from almost 30 yards with 20 minutes remaining.

Buchanan netted his second before Robinson’s moment. The striker smashed home the final goal of the afternoon two minutes from time to complete a memorable evening.
