GLENN Tamplin says Billericay Town will be targeting a National League South play-off tilt after his team ended the season by completing the treble.

Town have lifted the Isthmian Premier League, Essex Senior Cup and Isthmian League Cup trophies this campaign.

When the Billericay owner took over the club in December 2016 he claimed the team would win promotion every two seasons until his side reached the Football League.

Having appointed himself manager, Tamplin stepped away from the helm at the beginning of March following a poor run of results.

And a proud Tamplin, who will be slashing the wage budget by more than 50 per cent next season, says he expects promotion to the top level of non-league football by the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

“I am a very proud owner and happy man,” said Tamplin, who was at the AGP Arena on Saturday for the trophy presentation following a 2-2 draw with Folkestone Invicta.

“It was hard for me to walk away and do what I did. I have stayed off social media and this year has been a big learning curve for me.

“But people can say what we like. After we lost to Leatherhead in the FA Cup people were laughing at us but we came back and won three trophies, scored in 73 consecutive games and have broken so many records.

“There were 2,000 people celebrating with us on Saturday and it’s a dream come true. We didn’t give up and we never will.

“But I didn’t come here to enjoy one year of success. Next year will be us settling down and getting used to the level. We have a budget of £10,000 a week as I want the club to be sustainable. We will aim for the play-offs and the year after we will get promotion again.

“The lovely fans were singing we will be in the league and we will in four years’ time.”

Tamplin also confirmed head coach Harry Wheeler and coach Danny Hazle will lead the club next season, as he takes a back seat.

And he was full of praise for the management team.

“Harry and Danny know the budget and can do what they want with the team, it’s in their hands,” he said. “I want to make the club sustainable and I will be changing the wage structure.

“Danny is great and is a great support mechanism for Harry. And what a man Harry Wheeler is. It was all against him at one stage after a poor run but he stood firm and he is a machine. I am proud to know him and call him my friend.”
