CANVEY Island's Chris Bourne has again made a name for himself in Guyana's international team.

Playing against highly-rated Cuba for the second time in three days, Guyana followed up their 2-1 win in Linden by drawing 0-0 at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground.

Bourne, playing wide on the left, had made a significant contribution when coming on for the last half-hour in the first match with a Cuban side rated the best in the Caribbean.

He impressed coach Wayne Dover enough against a side ranked 88th in the world to earn a starting place in the second match.

This time it finished 0-0 with Guyana, who stand 132nd in the FIFA rankings, continuing to build well for their World Cup qualifying campaign which starts in June.

Bourne is one of two Gulls players - the other being midfielder Clydie Roberts - with the Guyana squad.

Roberts came off the bench as a substitute in the second game and the Guyana management have indicated that some of the England based players will form part of the World Cup squad.

Two other Islanders, Danny Francis and Ryan Edgar, are recently back from representing Dominica in their 1-1 World Cup qualifying home tie with Barbados.

International calls are among the problems facing Gulls manager John Batch as the islanders attempt to step-up their play-off bid with a tough trip to Brentwood tonight.

Canvey, on a run of 10 games without defeat in all competitions, already have a long injury list which could be added to with striker Jay Curran limping out of Saturday's home win over Great Wakering Rovers late on with a hamstring injury.

Canvey are one place and two points off the play-offs, but Brentwood are close on their heels - two points in arrears - after Saturday's 1-1 home draw with Aveley extended their unbeaten run to four matches.
