Aveley 2, Ashford Town (Mx) 1

10:45am Monday 8th March 2010

THE Millers climbed to 14th and are now just 12 points away from the 50-point target they feel certain they ensure staying in the top flight.

The visitors were twice thwarted early on when Joe McNerney headed into goalkeeper Ollie Morris-Sanders and then when Jermaine McGlashan beat the keeper but saw Tony Russell block his goalbound effort.

Aveley took a 35th-minute lead when Sherwin Stanley set-up top scorer Martin Tuohy, who was able to pick his spot from outside the six-yard box.

Ashford equalised on the hour when Jones Awuah netted with a neat header from a right-wing corner.

But Millers were not to be denied and grabbed the winner 15 minutes from time when sharpshooter Tuohy turned provider to set-up Junior Dadson to score with a lob over keeper Paul Burgess.

Aveley are back in action tomorrow night at relegation-threatened Waltham Abbey.
