HANNAKINS Farm, offered a rare bright spot on a generally miserable day for south-east Essex teams.
The Billericay-based Division One side took on Premier side Frenford Senior in round three of the Senior League Cup and won 2-1.
But there was no such joy for Benfleet at Newham in round two. They drew 5-5 after extra-time, only to lose 5-4 on penalties.
In the second round of the Denny King Memorial Trophy, Shell Club Corringham went down 2-1 at home to Canning Town.
In the league, Southend’s White Ensign found the efforts of many of their players having competed in two midweek games too much at home to Manford Way and lost 6-1, Andy Collins scoring their consolation. Rayleigh Town went down 2-0 at home to Ongar Town. Lakeside lost 2-1 at Bishop’s Stortford Swifts in Division One and Leigh Ramblers crashed 5-1 at home to Hutton.
At least Division Two was a little brighter with Runwell Hospital winning 2-0 at Old Chelmsfordians in their top-of-the-table clash.
In Division Three, Basildon Town’s first team put in a disappointing performance at home to a Ramsden side who belied their lowly league position, winning 2-1. Town’s goal came from Gary Morrison. Town’s reserve side returned home empty-handed losing 1-0 at Sandon Royals.
