Six Olympian teams through in Premier Cup

SIX Essex Olympian League teams have made it through to the quarter finals of the Saturday Essex Premier Cup.

The only team playing opponents from outside the competition were Rayleigh Town, who beat Alnwick 5-1.

Dan Barrington and Jack Gardner scored two each and Welcome Mtshali one for Town. Ryan Dyer scored for the visitors.

Harold Wood Athletic travelled to Old Barkabbeyans where a solitary Leon Jones goal put Harold Wood through.

Sandon Royals gained revenge for their home league defeat when they travelled to Ongar Town and won 2-1.

Mark Neal scored for Ongar, while a Paul Harvey goal and penalty 10 minutes from the end by Jamie Ricks put Royals through.

In the derby at Benfleet goals from Steve Roberts and Aki Bagdas gave Stambridge United a 3-0 victory.

Broomfield travelled to Aldborough Athletic where they lost 3-1. Creag Lawrence scored for Broomfield, while two goals from Daniel Tapper and a Julian Edwards singleton gave the home side victory.

With Castle United’s pitch being unfit they travelled to opponents Hannakins Farm to play the tie but went down 2-1. Bradley O’Donovan scored for Castle and an Anthony Aylett goal and penalty on 85 minutes gave Hannakins the win.

Currently homeless Canning Town travelled to Newbury Forest to play their “home” tie and after the scores had been level at 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Town finally went down 4-2 after extra time. Michael Smith scored both the Canning Town goals with Shaun Harris, Tech Singh, Brett Jacobs and Zack Bewley sharing the Newbury Forest goals.

Manford Way became the first team into the quarter finals of the Denny King Memorial Cup when they beat visitors Lakeside 4-2 after extra time.

Lakeside took a 2-0 lead through goals by Lee Atkinson and a Gareth Grover own goal, but goals by Kevin McAnulty and Keke St Hilaire sent the game into extra time.

Two goals from Lee Meadows and Tom Dosser finally put the home side through. With Westhamians not playing, a 2-0 win for Kelvedon Hatch at home to M&B Club moved them to the top of Premier Division table. Gary Smith and Danny Demetriou scored the goals.

Frenford Senior moved into second place just one point behind after a Terry Scotchmer goal gave them a 1-0 win at home to Harold Hill.

After starting the season off with three straight wins, Buckhurst Hill suffered their third defeat in a row when they travelled to Hutton and went down 6-0.

James Whelpdale and Mitchell Lowes scored one each while Luke Meadwright scored four.

Yew Danso scored five goals as White Ensign won 6-0 against visitors Galleywood. A Hamid Zamani goal made up the total A Dave Browne first half goal put Southminster St Leonards 1 – 0 up against Senior Division One visitors Old Chelmsfordians.

Second-half goals from Scott Pethers and Chris Tuttlebee with his first touch since joining the club from Sandon Royals gave the hosts a 3-1 win. Josh Brown scored a late goal for OC’s.

While they seem to have no trouble winning away, Wadham Lodge suffered their third straight home defeat when they went down 2-1 to Runwell Hospital.

Eric Palmer scored for Wadham with James Morkunas and Matt Baker sharing the Runwell goals.

Senior Division Two leaders Springfield suffered their first home league defeat of the season when a Luke Read goal gave Leigh Ramblers a 1-0 victory.

Roydon moved up to joint second after two goals each from Steve Banks and Naz Kargi and a Jose Fernandes goal gave them a 5-0 win over visitors Forest Glade.

Paul Woods scored two and Matt Osborne and Stuart Smith one each to give Leytonstone United the points from a 4-3 win over bottom club Sungate. Conor Maher, Chris Merser and Gary Bassant scored for Sungate.

At Burnham Ramblers Reserves goals by Tom Breakey, Lee Warrington and Mark Hampshire gave Old Southendian a 3-2 win. Joe Carter and Ben Smith shared the Burnham goals.

Catholic United went third in Senior Division Three after a Craig MacDonald hat-trick gave them a 3-1 win at Toby whose scorer was Ryan Morgan.

Adam Gunning and Darren Agyei-Dua goals saw Shenfield win 2-1 at home to Debden Sports, whose only response came from Lee Smith.

Goals by Tom Wright, Marcus Bowers and an own goal gave Ramsden a 3-2 win at struggling Writtle. Joe Nathanson and Ben Childs found the visitors’ net.

John Taylor scored four and Matt Baker one for Rayleigh Town when they travelled to Westhamians and won 5-0 in Reserve Division One.

Also scoring five away from home were Frenford Senior who travelled the short distance to Buckhurst Hill and won 5-1.

Matt Curtis scored for the hosts with a Paul Deller hat-trick a goal by Billy Batchford and an own goal making up the division leaders total.

Tom Goodey scored the only goal for Epping as they won 1-0 at home to Manford Way, while two goals by James Ling and singletons by Ryan Bowman and Sam Cooper gave M&B Club a 4-0 win over visitors Upminster.

Quentin Daly scored two and Lee Wettner one as Harold Wood Athletic won the local derby against Kelvedon Hatch 3-2. Dean Walker and Terry Wright scored the visitors’ goals.

It was bottom at home to top in Reserve Division Two as Basildon Town played host to leaders Southminster St Leonards, and it was goals by Nathan Ruggles and Gareth Jones that saw the visitors win 2-1. Chris Charlery score for Town.

A solitary Ian Casey goal was enough for Castle United to win 1-0 at Runwell Hospital.

Haydon Muir goal was not enough for Leigh Ramblers as they went down 2-1 to visitors Debden Sports. Daniel Keen and Martin Sawyer scored the goals.

Charlie Cooney, Nathan Dewberry and Aaron Lake scored the goals in White Ensign’s 3-1 win at Old Chelmsfordians whose scorer was Stuart Read.

In the only goalless match of the day Herongate Athletic took a point from their match at Galleywood.

Andy Scott scored two and Sam Carter and Dave Norris one each to give Old Barkabbeyans a 4-2 victory at Old Southendian in Reserve Division Three. Nick Cardosi and Andy Turner scored for the hosts.

Also winning 4-2 were Newham United at Catholic United. Adam Webb and Jason Ricks scored the Catholic goals but these were overtaken by goals from Tommy Turner, Michael Connelly, Dave Childs and Charlie Gardiner.

Also scoring four were Lakeside at home to Shenfield. Ben Bedford scored for Shenfield with Dave Walker getting two and Lee Jenkins and Adam Thomas one each in their side’s 4-1 home win.

Jim Reeves scored twice and James Goodbun once to give Chingford Athletic a 3 – 2 win over visitors Leytonstone United for whom Matt Norton scored both the goals.

Alex Smith scored for Stambridge United and Isaac Idu for visitors Toby in the match that finished 1-1.
