GRANT Gordon has taken over Billericay Town Football Club.

Town's former manager completed a deal with chairman Steve Kent on Thursday night to take a controlling interest in the new Conference South outfit.

Gordon, who sat in the dug-out for Billericay's opening day win over Truro, said he'd initially returned to the club because Craig Edwards had asked him to join the management team.

Gordon told the Echo: "I knew the club was up for sale and Steve and Sharon Kent have done a wonderful club getting it to where it is today.

"I was in a position to help and hopefully carry on their good work, with them both remaining at the club and as normal playing a major role.

"To survive at this level you have to compete financially and so our major target is to bring in new investment and utilise some of the great people we already have here at the club.

"Right now the most imortant thing is tomorrow's game at Eastbourne, and Monday's visit of our neighbours Hornchurch, when we hope to have a bumper crowd and three points."

Kent, who put the club up for sale in the summer, said:"I could not be happier with the outcome.

"Grant Gordon has stepped in, and he has done it for all the right reasons. He will take control by purchasing 60 per cent of my shares."

Kent said their had been other offers but they were not right for the club.
