Beachboys boss’ fury at Sky man’s rant

DANNY Cowley said he was “disappointed” with an angry outburst from Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler at the end of their win at Kingstonian.

Tyler, in his capacity as first team coach at the K’s, had a heated exchange with Concord joint manager Cowley at the end of the Beachboys’ 1-0 victory at Kingsmeadow on Saturday.

The next day Tyler took his usual place in the commentary box to cover the Premier League showdown between Arsenal and Manchester United.

But Cowley said the man whose voice has become synonymous with the national game can be far less “mild-mannered” away from his day job.

Cowley said the incident was triggered after Concord midfielder Olumide Durojaiye clashed with Kingstonian midfielder Simon Huckle, and that resulted in Tyler aiming some choice words in his direction.

Cowley said: “I was disappointed with Martin Tyler, and the way he reacted.

“But football is an emotional game and sometimes people over-react. But I spoke to him after the game and we drew a line under it. And we left there with no issues with their management. It was a small incident in a very good game, and I don’t want it to detract from a terrific performance and a terrific result for us.”

Cowley also had an angry confrontation with Billericay manager Craig Edwards last month.

And he said he feels that some of the more established teams in the division often use touchline disputes to try to detract from a good result for his less fashionable side.

But he said that as far as he is concerned there should be no lasting animosity from what happens during a game.

Kingstonian chairman John Fenwick said it was an incident in the heat of the moment which was forgotten after the game.

He said: “I spoke to Martin and I know all parties left with no animosity. I think all that happened was Martin said something in the heat of the moment which he regretted. That was forgotten when the game ended.”

Crowley is managing a team well above his capabilities, His touchline tactics hardly represent RESPECT in any shape or form.
