Wealdstone 3, Concord Rangers 1
11:52am Monday 30th April 2012 in Billericay Town & Concord Rangers: Conference South
CONCORD concluded their roller-coaster season with defeat at an in-form Stones side who will take some stopping in the play-offs.
But it was a decent performance from the Beachboys, and there was a glimpse of the future when 16-year-old Sammy Knott — the younger brother of Sunderland midfielder Billy — came on as a second-half substitute for his senior debut.
Concord were up against it from the start as Alex Dyer gave the hosts a first-minute lead in front of a crowd of 717.
But they were level 10 minutes later when free-scoring centre-back Steve King fired home to shock their hosts.
And Concord were the better side for the remainder of the half, but it remained all-square at the interval.
The hosts re-took the lead when Richard Jolly fired into the bottom corner for his 31st league goal of the season and confirmation he would finish as the division’s Golden Boot.
And Stones sealed the win and fourth place in the division with 10 minutes to go when Scott Fitzgerald made it 3-1.
It meant Concord finished their second season in the division in 14th — quite an achievement after a dreadful start, but perhaps slightly disappointing after a sensational run of results had left them within striking distance of the play-offs.
