I MUST admit, I was a bit worried with the transfer business West Ham United had done two weeks ago.

The Hammers struggled last term and had only added Pablo Zabaleta - who had departed Manchester City following the expiry of his contract - to their squad.

Other clubs, particularly Everton, had been splashing the cash early on in the window, leaving West Ham in their wake.

But in the space of a week, Slaven Bilic has signed Joe Hart, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez, which has changed my outlook.

Bilic made a host of embarrassing signings last summer - namely Gokhan Tore, Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri.

But this time, he has been sensible and gone for tried and tested Premier League players who will certainly improve the side.

Hart is the England number one and a Premier League title winner.

The goalkeeper was - and still is - adored by Manchester City fans and many think he has been treated unfairly by Pep Guardiola.

Well, City’s loss is West Ham’s gain.

He may have only moved to the London Stadium on a season-long loan, but Hart will stabilise a side that leaked goals last term.

Zabaleta’s experience will also help the Hammers defence and could pass his experience on to Sam Byram.

Arnautovic has been one of Stoke City’s best players in recent years and will add a bit of creativity to Bilic’s attack.

Hernandez, however, is the best signing of the lot as the Mexico international has scored consistently wherever he has played.

Hernandez netted 59 goals in just over four seasons for Manchester United, nine in 33 while on loan at Real Madrid and 39 in 76 matches for Bayer Leverkusen.

He is also his country’s all-time top goalscorer with 48 goals.

And with some of the ludicrous amounts of money being spent this summer, Hernandez is a bargain at £16million.
