MATT Jarvis is a good player... but £10million seems like a lot to pay for him.

But if he comes in, does the business and scores goals and keeps West Ham in the Premier League then he’s worth it.

I do think he’s the type of player West Ham needed to bring in.

I was a big fan of Matthew Etherington, and I think Jarvis is the same sort of player.

Etherington was very positive and put people on the back foot, and Jarvis reminds me of him.

Ricardo Vaz Te is also in the same mould in that he gets the ball and looks to get past his marker.

A lot of wingers now get the ball and their first touch is a pass backwards.

So although I don’t think the price is right, I think the Jarvis is the right player and I hope he’s a success for West Ham.

* I LIKE the way Swansea play their football and Brendan Rogers put together a nice team there.

I know West Ham fans would perhaps like to see us play a bit more like that, but you need the players to be able to play that style of football.

Everyone needs to be comfortable on the ball and that’s what Swansea have got. The full-backs get the ball off the goalkeeper and they play it from the back.

And, for me, West Ham don’t have the players to do that.

Don’t get me wrong, West Ham have some good ball players but they are not at the back, as we saw last season.

Swansea got off to a great start with that 5-0 win over QPR.

I don’t particularly rate that QPR side, but I think Swansea look good.

Swansea have a new manager in Michael Laudrup and it’s their first home game of the season so they will want to impress in front of their fans.

So it will be a tough game for West Ham, and a draw there for would be a good result.

* IT WAS great to get off to an opening day win against Aston Villa in front of a sell-out crowd at home.

It left everyone happy and that can give a newly-promoted team a big boost.

Villa are not a great side but you can only beat what is in front of you.

And 1-0 will do nicely so like I said, it’s a great start.
