ROCHFORD Hundred men’s section held both weekend medals and their Hillier Bowl & Drinkwater Trophy.

The Hillier Bowl went to Gary Jones who has hit a rich vein of form of late.

Eleven handicapper Jones returned 40 stableford points and largely owed his victory to a superb back nine which started with a bogey.

But he backed this up with a birdie and five straight pars.

Jones could even afford the luxury of a double bogey/bogey finish as he ended two points clear of Robert Bryan on 38 points. Bryan played solidly throughout, posting a total of eight pars.

But he saw his chances dented by the two par fives on the back nine. Gary Buxton edged home in third place on countback as a host of players scored 37 points.

The Saturday medal saw Ian Hookway clinch the win in the top division with 74-5=69.

Hookway had a mixed start with a couple of birdies cancelled out by a harmful triple bogey on the fourth.

However he did not let this affect him as he fought back strongly on the back as he shot a gross one under to deny Mark Walden (75-5=70).

Walden was another to play his better golf on the back stretch as he posted a level par last nine.

The second tier saw Julian Barrett shoot a superb 73-8=65 as he saw his handicap cut to seven.

Barrett posted just three bogeys to go with a birdie as he parred the rest to deservedly win by a shot from Michael Jameison (77-11=66).

Another fine score by Jonathan Jude with 82-17=65 secured the third division on countback from Nicholas Blunden as both saw their respective handicaps slashed by two shots.

The Sunday medal scores reflected the course playing tougher but that did not stop Matt Fearn blitzing the top division by six clear shots with a magnificent 69-2=67.

The highlight of Fearn’s round came from the 14th hole as he posted three straight birdies and a new playing handicap of one.

Graham Collins (73-6=67) will now be playing in the top division as a result of his victory. Collins shot a one under front nine to put daylight between himself and David Currie (76-7=69) who came second.

Alan Hull (82-15=67) produced a fine display to comfortably secure the third division by four shots from Gary Buxton (85-14=71) as both earned handicap cuts.

Meanwhile the ladies have been trying to catch up on some of their competitions that have suffered due to the weather this summer.

Their foundation medal was won by Pat Lowndes with an excellent nett 71 which resulted in a two shot handicap cut as the course was playing tough.

Carol Evans with a nett 76 finished runner up. Pat Lowndes also managed to secure the bronze medal honours, while Jo Rumsey secured the silver medal division.

Finally, they held a 36 hole eclectic medal for the Peter & Paul cups.

The silver section saw Sue Proctor win with a net 69 with Jo Rumsey just a shot away in second.

The bronze winner went to Sylvia Barty with a net 70 denying Pam Meredith with a net 72.
