THORPE Hall were delighted to record a solid victory against old rivals Boyce Hill in the first round of the Leslie Wood.

The morning foursomes was highlighted by a 6/5 victory by Richard Tansley and Rahul Shah, helping Thorpe to a 3/2 advantage.

The afternoon singles started with a long half by Cadet Steven Pickford on the 18th and Carl Neal, after being one down with three to play, scored three solid pars for a 1-up victory.

John Benjamin won on the 16th with a great birdie and James Glencross, Mark Hibbett and Richard Tansley made up the winning score of 9.5 - 5.5.

It would do Thorpe Hall good to have a run in both the Leslie Wood and the Thorndon Cup and Thorpe have never won the Leslie Wood.

The Veteran Men’s April Stableford was won by Tom Bottrill, with 38 points, off nine handicap, bringing a temporary halt to Graham Easton’s run, who was second with 36 points off 16 handicap.

John Goyette, Bruce Turner and Ved Aggarval were next with 35 points, off 19, 12 and 24 handicaps.

The Men’s St George’s Day Four Ball Better Ball was tied on 41 points, between Talat Buta and Daniel Capps and John Benjamin and Neil Harper.

But Buta and Capps edged the win on countback.
