BASILDON’S Clapham C team had a superb win over Hainault when they met in the NAPGC’s greensomes competition.

Alan Cable, Colin Dilworth, Shaun Holding, Dave Pettet, Andy Cooper and Glen David won their home matches by nine points while James Dennison, Dave Phillips, Paul Finnecy (team captain) Graham Crimmins, Charlie Cooper and Gary Fenner travelled to Hainault and beat the home side on their own course.

The margin of victory was just one point. They now meet Belhus Park in their next match.

In the Siemens Bowl, Gary Clarke, as team captain, was delighted when his team beat Southern Valley by 151 points to 127 in the betterball stableford competition. Clarke partnered Roger Hartrup and they came in with 33 points, Paul Entwistle and Bob Butterworth had 34 points, and both pairings of Stephen Roskams and Vic Newman and brothers Allan and Ken Dennison had a great score of 42 points each.

The team now face Trent Park in the next round.

John Carless and John Wilson romped home as the winners in the Preedy foursomes with a remarkable 41 points – the winners by a clear six points. Second place went to Jeff Harrison and Ray Short with 35, and the pairing of Glen Eastman and John Wright came third with 34 points.

In the Phil Locke stableford competition, Stephen Roskams returned a score of 40 points to take the win over Kevin Lockwood who was close with 39 points. Just behind them were both Bob Graham and Ron Covey both with 38, but Graham took third with a better back nine.

Michael Watson and James Dennison had a fight on their hands when visiting team Chislehurst took the pairing to the 19th hole in the Daily Mail Foursomes competition, but Watson and Dennison held on for the win.

The April Monthly Medal winner was John Wright with a nett 70. Paul Finnecy took second place, also with a nett 70 and Jeff Harrison came in with a nett 71 to take third place.

The Clapham A team of John Wilson, John Carless, Gordon Longmuir, Laurence Bullard, Dan Newman, Steve Sadler, John Wright, Ray Short, Glen Eastman, Pete Richens, Paul Lagden and Jeff Harrison played their match against Trent Park in the greensomes competition and won by 220-206 points.

The Clubs team in the Leslie Wood County competition are through to the 2nd round after receiving a W/O by The Notleys as they were unable to field a team.
