DANIEL Brooks moved into the all important top 110 of the Race to Dubai rankings with another solid display in South Africa.

The 26-year-old rookie from Basildon carded three sub 70 rounds on his way to a prize purse of 4,500 euros at the Africa Open at the East London Golf Club.

It means he has now picked up money at all five of the European Tour events his limited category has earned him invites to and left him the last ranking place which secures his playing card for next season.

Brooks has stayed in South Africa ahead of his participation in next week’s Tshwarne Open, but his dad Mick admits he is happy with his current form and standing.

He said: “He keeps making the cuts and that’s all he can do really. It was good for him to pick up some more prize money, especially as he did not feel he had even really got going.

“Now he just needs to keep his form going and get as far up that leader board as possible.

“He is 110th and he would settle for that right now. But it is going to be hard because there is a long way to go. But the good thing is he is starting to feel at home on the European Tour and he is starting to show what he can do now.”

Brooks is not in action this week because the European Tour takes a break as the world’s top players head to Arizona for the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championships.

But he will tee off next Thursday at the co-sanctioned Sunshine Tour’s Tshwarne Open at the Copperleaf Golf & Country Estate – a competition which holds fond memories for him.

Mick said: “Dan came second here last year and almost won it. He picked up about 20,000 euros too, and it is the same venue so he wants to go there and do well.”
