Higher scores came to the fore during Rochford Hundred’s weekly Stableford competition with three higher handicappers dominating proceedings.
First up was 23 handicapper Tony Mutimer as he returned a terrific 45 points on his way to a full three-shot handicap cut. Mutimer posted nine pars and a fine birdie three on the par four ninth to finish two points clear of second placed James Dean. Dean scored six pars himself, with his high scoring courtesy of an overall card not containing a single blob. He was another to see two shots shaved off his handicap to now be playing off 21. A further two shots back in third was Stuart Campbell with 41.
On the representative side, Rochford have enjoyed a fruitful week, with firstly on Saturday afternoon the Youth Shield team scoring a 5-0 victory over Boyce Hill at home, and Sunday, where the Thornton Cup team had an emphatic win 13.5-1.5 away at Garons Park.
Also three of Rochford’s young stars were selected to represent Essex as part of a six man team in the South East counties boy’s championship. Taylor Carter, Bradley Bawden & Mitchell Sarling formed half of the Essex side as 11 counties competed at Copthorne Golf club.
After 36 holes of strokeplay, the Rochford trio helped Essex were crowned champions and they will now move on to the national final.
