ROCHFORD: Andy Frye achieved a rare feat when he lifted both the Saturday and Sunday medals in the top division.

Three-handicapper Frye posted 72-3=69 to win the Saturday contest by just one shot from Craig Paton (74-4=70).

Frye returned 17 pars and just one dropped shot on his card in a solid display. Brian Rackham won the second tier with 80-11=69 with John Gray (77-6=71) two shots back. The third category was won by Neil Smith with 86-14=72.

The Sunday medal saw Frye lift his game to another level as he returned a superb 68-3=65 to win again by a shot, this time from scratch golfer Spencer Wells (66-0=66).

Frye shot two birdies on a blemish free front nine to set himself up perfectly for his homeward stretch. Two further birdies and a single bogey followed with pars on the rest as he secured a fine weekend’s work and a new handicap of two.

Wells himself played some immaculate golf as his card contained no less than six birdies as he ran Frye mighty close. The second tier went to Roy Munro with 80-11=69 from Steve Smyth (79-9=70). The third section went to Tony Mutimer with 82-18=64 for a five shot margin back to second.

It has also been one of the ladies sections most important days as they held their finals day. The Nelson Keys silver division was won by Sue Proctor from Carol Evans with Beryl Claxton winning the bronze division from Sylvia Barty. Amanda Colgate-Herbert lifted two trophies as she first won the summer foursomes with Carol Johnson as they defeated Tricia Collins and Lorraine Norris, and then lifted the Silver summer eclectic with Lorraine Norris lifting the Bronze. The mixed AA Thornton final turned out to be an all ladies final with Janice Hazledine defeating Jo Rumsey.

Finally, the men held their penultimate Scott Spencer with Mark Amis posting 37 points to beat Peter Wigg on countback. Amis scored 21 points on his homeward nine to just deny Wigg as both players enjoyed a shot handicap reduction.
