DANIEL Brooks produced his best performance of 2015 to finish tied 20th at the venue which will be the next European host of the Ryder Cup.

Brooks, 28, from Basildon, has had a tough year so far, missing a string of cuts on the European Tour.

But he bounced back at the Alston Open de France at the Le Golf National course in Paris to earn himself his first prize money since February.

A superb five-under par round of 66 on the second day on the course that will host the Ryder Cup in 2018 showed he is finding his best form again.

Brooks was, for a time, joint top of the leaderboard in Paris as a fabulous run that included an eagle on the 10th.

“It was a tough course and you needed to hit some good shots,” said Brooks.

“I have had a bit of a struggle in the past year or so, but I felt I played alright a week earlier (at the BMW International Open) where I missed the cut by a shot and I felt I was hitting the ball well at the Open qualifying at Woburn.

“So I came here and hit some nice shots early on and it went from there.

“It’s been hard going. There have been quite a lot of weeks now where I have been really poor. Hopefully I can go on from here.”

Brooks eventually finished 13 shots off the winner, Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger, after final rounds of 70 and 75.

Southend professional Richard McEvoy missed the cut in Paris.
